Dave loves to share his passion for nature photography with everyone around him in a simple, easy to understand manner. He has been a professional photographer for 13 years (full time the last 2 years) and just as excited about nature photography today as when he first went to Yellowstone National Park in 2005. Dave travels extensively throughout North America and recently spent 2 weeks in Italy scouting for future workshop locations. He also divides his photographic time between wildlife and landscapes and enjoys the diversity they both provide.
Dave was born and raised in Ontario with a B.A. Hons from Brock University in St Catharines, Dave moved to Vancouver in 1993 and relocated to Vancouver Island in 2002. Dave currently lives with his 12-year daughter in Sidney on Vancouver Island.
Dave considers himself fortunate to have ventured into places that many others don’t visit. The Great Bear Rainforest in the North Central Coast of BC has called him back repeatedly with the lure of Grizzly and Spirit Bears. Images from these trips have been published in over 20 calendars, books, thousands of art cards, Tourism Victoria Guide, Northern BC Travel Guide, Westworld Magazine, Canadian Wildlife Magazine, Canadian Geographic Magazine, and more, Dave has photographed other species including whales, wolves, birds, as well as, landscapes and seascapes from all over Nother America and this year including Europe.
Save also offers popular private instruction and guiding services to individuals and small groups around Vancouver Island, He also leads workshops in Port Renfrew, Tofino, Colorado, and the Khutzeymateen Grizzy Bear Sanctuary (Provincial Park in Northern BC home to 50-60 Grizzly bears) with his long time friend Shane McDermott.
